Outstanding resource for novice and high-mileage runners!

Outstanding resource for novice and high-mileage runners!
This book is a keeper! Filled with the nuts and bolts of how to run for a lifetime, I can’t be without it. Twice I have given away my personal copy to a new “recruit,” and twice I have proceeded to purchase myself a replacement copy! In fact, my first copy was a personal copy hand-me-down from a committed runner. Well-written, with a flair for humorous anecdotes that have an important point, this handbook will take you through the best and worst running has to offer. Information on clothing, on shoes, on route choices, racing tips, injury prevention, strength ...

Probably the only running reference you’ll need

Probably the only running reference you’ll need
If you have any sort of interest in running, I can’t recommend any book more enthusiastically than this one. Although it may seem strange to get a book about running–I mean, what is there to it, right? But it turns out there are a couple of good reasons to pick up a book on running: one, it’s motivating; two, there is a ton of useful information crammed into this book. It will be the only running reference you’ll ever really need. With over 700 pages, this isn’t a lightweight book. It truly is about as comprehensive as you can imagine, and will serve most...

If you have found this review because you are looking for the best book on how to start, or re-start, your running / health program – LOOK NO FURTHER! YOU HAVE FOUND IT! GET THIS BOOK **NOW**! My wife and I decided this past summer (2003) to start an exercise program together – something that would be fun, increase our energy levels, allow us to lose weight, and that we could do anywhere we travel. After talking to a number of friends, I purchased this book and began reading. Words, alone, do not allow me to express how much I enjoyed this book! It’s extremely well...

A Running Book To Keep

A Running Book To Keep
I have had this book for almost a year now, and I can definitely say that it has changed my life. I started out with his beginner’s program, soon found myself participating in a 10K race, and 7 months later, I am still referring to it in preparation for a half marathon. Bob Glover wants running to be fun for you, and clearly states on numerous occasions that if racing is not for you, fine. If the marathon isn’t for you, fine. He encourages people to maintain a basic level and be a “fitness runner.” Beyond that, it can only get better for people who ...

The Runner’s Handbook is a Lifesaver

The Runner’s Handbook is a Lifesaver
This is a great book. It would be great for the avid runner, but I think it speaks especially to those who want to be active, but don’t know where to start. I have been running for 4 weeks now, and though that isn’t very long, I can tell a huge difference in my physical shape as well as my overall demeanor. The book is a conversational read and your never left feeling like you’re not good enough or you’re not qualified. It teaches that everyone can be a runner with will power and ...

The definitive guide for 1st time marathon training

The definitive guide for 1st time marathon training
I loved this book! Everything, I mean everything, you ever wanted to know about running is here. I just ran the NYC Marathon on 11-4-01 thanks to the Coach Glover (author) training program, and I finished in 4:49. I went from clueless non-runner to marathoner using this book. Following this program, I went into the marathon confident that I would do well and I would even enjoy running the marathon. This, coming from someone who used to despise running. Regarding the book, I especially enjoyed Glover’s breezy and humorous writing style. It’s not just for ...

Excellent book for runners new and seasoned

Excellent book for runners new and seasoned
This book contains all the information a beginning runner needs, and is a good reference for intermediate ones such as myself. Glover’s writing style is friendly and inspirational, and the chapter layout makes it easy to find the information you are interested in. Each page is crammed with good advice, and important points are discussed in a concise manner. As noted by another reviewer, some illustrations would be a welcome addition. I’ll be ordering Glover’s “Competitive Runner’s Handbook” as soon as I’ve worked my way through this...

An Excellent Guide to Running

An Excellent Guide to Running
I’ve had this book for years and it is one that I always go back to. Glover covers everything that you need to know. He has a friendly coach-like tone that really encourages me to run. There are sections for beginning and intermediate runners as well advice on how to get into racing and marathons. He also covers nutrition, running shoes and clothing, cross-training, and a whole lot more. This is really the only book you need on...
